Bidding
Bidding is an important component of Spades. At the most basic level, bidding the number of Kings and Aces in your hand is a good place to start. Of course, there are other modifications you may want to make. For example, your bid might be higher or lower depending on how many ♠ you have. Bidding 1 for each ♠ beyond three is usually a good idea; for example, +1 if you have four ♠s, +2 if you have five ♠s, +3 if you have six ♠s, etc. You may also want to bid higher if you have two or less ♣️, ♦️, or ♥️ in your hand.

Going Nil
Nil offers a high risk and high reward when bidding. You are committing to taking zero tricks. Generally, lower cards and few ♠ is a better hand for Nil. Having a King or Ace in ♣️, ♦️, or ♥️ is okay as long as you have low cards in the same suit; it is never safe to bid Nil with the King or Ace of ♠. It’s usually not a good idea to bid Nil if your partner has already gone Nil. However, it is often easier to go Nil when an opponent has bid Nil. Likewise, if your partner or an opponent has an extraordinarily high bid, it may be easier to successfully go Nil.
Card Tracking
Try to keep track of cards that have been played. There are 13 cards of each suit in the deck — knowing which cards remain can inform the decisions you make. If you can’t keep track of every card, just try to remember when the King and Ace have been played for each suit. You usually want to avoid playing your King if you know the Ace hasn’t been played yet. It’s also helpful to know if your Queen is the highest card of the suit.
Voided Suits
Try getting rid of all cards of a specific suit in your hand; this is known as "voiding a suit" and can allow you to get rid of unwanted cards or trump cards by playing ♠. It is helpful to keep track of which player has run out of a specific suit. Leading a suit your partner is out of is a good thing because they may be able to play ♠ to easily trump or get rid of high cards when they’re going Nil. At the same time, leading a suit your opponent is out of is usually not a good idea because it gives them the same advantage.
Extra Tricks
Taking extra tricks after your team meets their bid can be a good way to stop your opponents from meeting their bid, resulting in big penalties. When the "Sandbag Penalty" is off, take as many tricks as possible! When the "Sandbag Penalty" is turned on, it still may make sense to take extra tricks — just be careful of taking too many or it will result in a penalty of 100 points for every 10th sandbag (or 50 points for every 5th sandbag, depending on your Settings).
Your Partner
Pay attention to your partner’s bid and the cards they are playing. It is sometimes a good idea to adjust your bid after knowing what your partner is going for. In other words, it sometimes makes sense to consider going for an extra trick if your partner bids low or to consider going Nil if your partner bids high. When your partner isn’t Nil, try to avoid taking tricks they intend on winning and lead suits you know they are out of in order to maximize the points you earn at the end of a round. If your partner is Nil, save your high cards when possible so you can have them later to stop them from taking tricks.
Game Score
You can view the current game score by selecting the button in the top right during a game. Sometimes it makes sense to adjust your strategy based on the current game score. For instance, it might make sense to bid a little higher and try to prevent your opponents from meeting their bid if they’re about to win. Similarly, if you are close to winning and your opponent won’t be able to, only bid the points you need to win to ensure sure your team will meet the combined bid. If the scores are close, it might make more sense to focus on meeting your bid before trying to prevent an opponent from successfully going Nil.
