Roughly half of a standard deck of playing cards (with the Jokers removed) is used in Addiction. The cards that exist in the deck are the Ace through 7 of all four suits, totaling 28 cards.
First, remove the four Aces then shuffle the deck. Place the Aces as the first card in each row (4 rows total) Deal the shuffled deck out so all four rows have 7 cards. After all four rows have been dealt their seven cards, the 7’s will be removed from the board and be unused for the rest of the game. This leaves the board in a state where there are four gaps on the board.
At this point the game is now set up and can be played. The objective of the game is to order the cards from A to 6, left to right, of the same suit. To achieve this, you are able to move cards to the gaps by placing cards of one rank higher and the same suit of the card on the left of the gap. However, if the card to the left of the gap is a 6, the gap is dead and cannot be filled.
Once all rows have been sorted with Ace through Six in order of the same suit and the gap is in the seventh position of the row, you have won! If you have reached a point with no more moves available, you have lost the game.
