Game Play: To start a game press the Play button and choose a Random Shuffle, a Winning Deal, or Replay the current game.

Winning Deals: Spider Solitaire deals games in two ways: Random and Winning. A Random Deal shuffles the cards randomly and consequently only some games can be won.  A Winning Deal is guaranteed to have at least one winning solution, and if you have trouble finding the solution it can be shown to you by using Show Me How To Win.  When a Winning Deal is dealt, a gold star will appear on the toolbar.  Tap the star to show the Winning Deals display where information about the game including information about your play of the game and a leaderboard showing top scores.

Rules: Spider Solitaire uses two standard 52 card decks of playing cards without jokers. In the opening deal, 44 cards are dealt face down into 10 tableau columns with an additional 10 cards dealt face up, one on each column. The remaining 50 cards become the stock.

The object of the game is to expose all cards and move them to the foundation piles by assembling cards of the same suit in complete runs from King to Ace within the columns of the tableau. Once a complete run is made, the cards in that run are automatically moved to the foundation piles. When all completed runs have been moved from the tableau to the foundation piles, the game is won.

During game play, cards facing up may be moved between the columns of the tableau by building runs of cards downward in decreasing rank, for example:  4-3-2-A , 10-9-8-7-6, K-Q-J, etc. When building runs in the tableau, cards may be moved individually or in groups, and any suit can be placed on top of any other suit. However, only runs of cards that are in proper decreasing rank order and of the same suit may be moved together as a group. An empty column may be filled by any card or run of cards that are eligible to be moved.

Cards from the stock are dealt by tapping the stacks of cards representing the stock. Cards from the stock are dealt in sets of 10, one card to each column of the tableau. Cards may be dealt from the stock at any time as long as all of the tableau columns contain at least one card.

Unrestricted Deal: With unrestricted deal, more cards can be dealt even when some of the tableaus are empty. This can help prevent players from getting stuck if they have less than ten cards in play. Unrestricted deal can also help make games easier to win.

Unrestricted Undo: With unrestricted undo disabled, moves can only be undone until the last deal or move to foundation. With unrestricted undo enabled, moves can be undone back until the start of the game.

Hints: The hint feature is intended to aid the player in identifying available moves which can be made in the playing area.  Tap the button labeled "Hint" to activate the hint mechanism. The hint mechanism was not designed to show all available moves, only those deemed to possibly be productive in arriving at a solution. Furthermore, the number of hints shown is limited to 5 in order for the player not to have to wait an extended amount of time to resume play.
